  • What People Are Saying About Military Mom Talk Radio

"Buck Stienke and I were honored to be on Military Moms Talk Radio show last week. Wow! What a dedicated bunch of wonderful (and witty) ladies. We're proud to be a part of and associated with a group like Military Moms in support of and dedicated to our armed forces, both past and present. Oorah!" - Ken Farmer and Buck Stienke Co-Authors of the Black Eagle Force series. "Appearing on Military Mom Talk Radio was a fantastic experience. Sandra and her team were wonderful to work with. Programs such as this one are so important because they cut through the hype and sensationalism and offer real military families a chance to address the general public about the realities of military life. All too often, the media focus is on the hardships of military life, so it's refreshing to have an outlet like Military Mom Talk Radio where guests can share not only the challenges of military life, but also the rewards. Less than one percent of our citizens serve in the Armed Forces. Understandably, there's a huge military/civilian divide. With our country involved in two wars, we can all benefit from more programming featuring the stories of real military families." - Andi Hurley

Military Mom Talk Radio hosted by Sandra Beck welcomes Pat Brisson, author of Sometimes We Were Brave, February 14th

Sometimes We Were Brave is a picture book that portrays the special challenges military children face written by Pat Brisson. It’s about Jerome, whose mother is in the U.S. Navy and is shipping out for an extended period. Jerome’s mother kisses him good-bye and tells him to be brave, but he’s not sure he can do that.  He misses her a lot and worries about her out on her ship so far from home.  But when a wise teacher explains that being brave doesn’t mean not being afraid, but rather, doing what you’re supposed to do even though you’re afraid, he begins to realize that he has been brave all along.

Sandra Beck, Military Mom Talk Radio, Mom Talk Radio, Talk Radio for Mothers, , Christy Holly, Rick Swanson, Itunes, Military Mom Incorporated, Toginet, Itunes, Military Radio Show, Military Mom Radio Show, Podcasts for Military, Podcasts for Military Moms, Military Mom Podcast, Military Mothers Radio, Shows for Moms in Military, Pat Brisson, Sometimes We Were Brave, The Summer My Father Was TenPat is not from a military family, but as a children’s author, she visited many schools to talk about reading and writing.  When she visited DoDD schools in Panama and Guantanamo, she became interested in the military family subculture. As a parent, she wondered how she would deal with having to leave my children for long periods, and as a writer she wondered what it was like for the kids left behind.   Sometimes We Were Brave was written as a tribute to military families and a salute to the sacrifices made by the children of those serving in the armed forces.

Pat Brisson is the author of twenty books for young people.  Her picture book, The Summer My Father Was Ten, won the Christopher Medal, an award given to books that “affirm the highest values of the human spirit.”  Her picture book Mama Loves Me from Away, about a young girl whose mother is in prison, inspired her to volunteer at the state prison for women in New Jersey.  Since 2003 she has coordinated Project Storybook that allows the women to choose books to record and mail home to their children.   Her most recent picture book, Sometimes We Were Brave, was selected as an honor book in the picture book category by the Society of School Librarians International.  She is the mother of four sons.  She and her husband live in Phillipsburg, NJ.
